Believers in traditional food preparation, ecological farming, trade without money and living a waste-free lifestyle. | We are all about thoughtful consumerism.

We produce organic, waste-free, vegetables, fruits, flowers, pastured eggs and raw milk and provide our produce directly to people and restaurants. No middle-man.

We forage wild foods, hunt wild game and hand-milk our cow.

We make long-ferment sourdough bread, raw dairy products, natural wine, pickles and preserves.

We run workshops and dinners, consult and speak about real food, traditional ecological food-raising and pre-industrial food preparation.

We love living like this and we couldn’t imagine it any other way.

Sneak peek inside the book

Sneak peek inside the book

It is with child-like excitement that we bring you the very first peek inside the very first copy of our very first book! The countdown is on.
Grown & Gathered - Traditional living made modern, will be officially released on September 27 through Plum Publishing. This book has been without a doubt the hardest, but also the most rewarding thing we have ever created, and we couldn't be more excited (and proud) to share it with you!
The last 12 months for us have been completely full of writing and re-writing, testing and re-testing, questioning, researching, documenting and perfecting what feels like our entire body of shared knowledge about all the things we do, know, and believe in - living with the seasons, growing, gathering, raising animals, trading, cooking, preserving and eating!
Our goal was to write you all a practical guide to all of these traditional skills that we feel are so essential to living well, that was super easy to follow, practical and achievable for everyday living. And for absolutely anyone, anywhere. And we got so excited we wrote 352 pages for you all!
The first half of the book we talk about exactly how to grow your own vegetables, herbs and fruits the way nature intended in whatever space you have, with exact planting guides, lessons and techniques; forage for wild foods like mushrooms and edible weeds; raise your own animals, like chickens and bees; seek out the very best produce that exists no matter where you live; and trade without money to experience a new level of connection with those around you.
On top of all of that, in the second half of the book we somehow managed to cram in over 100 (we may have pushed our beautiful publishers at Plum for an extra 100 pages!) delicious, wholefood recipes from our seasonal, regional diet. There is cultured butter, feta and sourdough starter, our much asked for long-ferment, gluten-free sourdough bread, sourdough pastas, sourdough crumpets and traditional fermented dill pickles, kimchi, sauerkraut and natural wine. Or try our pear and eggplant kasundi, green tomato ketchup, home-cured and smoked bacon and home-cured tuna.
We snuck in all of our absolute favourite breakfasts, share-dishes, fresh veggie dishes, main plates and (of course) sweet things too! For bright mornings there is sweet potato and almond breakfast bread and kimchi pancakes. Or make some traditional pickled cabbage rolls, then feast on melted miso eggplant with green beans and honey, fig, bacon and zucchini pizzas. When the cold weather sweeps in, curl up with some steaming chickpea & cauliflower bowls or wild duck ramen. And then celebrate with a decadent chocolate, mulberry and espresso cake or some spiced pumpkin, cookie & cacao ice cream. It is basically our kitchen in a nutshell.
Enormous thanks go out to our dear friend Shantanu Starick who came along for the ride to help us capture one epic year on the Grown & Gathered farm. His images are absolutely stunning, and could have filled another 50 books (there's an idea)! And also to Daniel New (Oetomo New) who's incredibly sensitive design brought so much life to these pages.
If you believe in living thoughtfully, knowing where your food comes from and prioritising health, food, family, friends and fun – then this is for you. We hope with everything that you love it as much as we loved making it for you. Enjoy!
